The Passing of Richard Watson

July 8, 2025

It saddens me to inform you that Richard Watson, adjunct professor of music, CAS, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Although there is no formal obituary at this time, his information may be viewed at: https://www.haverstockfuneralhome.com/obituaries/richard-watson?fbclid=IwY2xjawLaHatleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETBWV0tSRXE2NGlhc3lMb250AR7xO4_vz-xtLhpE7ZPNX1RWhfTvlhvC59rRw-k6_eDb3EeqeY0oJJe0pplQWg_aem_oo4DlVbJXQ90b8lGcFu2vg

The following excerpt was pulled from a published tribute on Richard’s page.  It is authored by the LaPorte Symphony (of which he was a member) – Richard was a wonderful human, musician, and teacher! Richard was our principal tuba and has been performing with the LCSO for 31 years. He also had been an adjunct professor at Valparaiso University for over 30 years.  Richard received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his graduate degree from Northwestern.  His marvelous musicianship had afforded him many opportunities in life, some of these include being a member of the Honolulu, Utah, and Houston Symphonies.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, IN 46350.  A Celebration of Life will follow, starting at 4:00 p.m.

Also information about the memorial concerts for Professor Wastson will be shared later this summer.

Please remember Richard’s family in your prayers as they mourn their loss.
