{"id":675,"date":"2019-11-04T12:07:03","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T18:07:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.valpo.edu\/cital-dev\/?page_id=675"},"modified":"2025-07-24T08:58:54","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T13:58:54","slug":"faculty-development-fellows","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/intra.valpo.edu\/cital\/faculty-development\/collaborate-with-cital\/faculty-development-fellows\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Development Fellows"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-lead\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Faculty Development Fellows Program is designed to provide financial assistance to a faculty member to work on a specific teaching\/learning project for one year from April through the following April.&nbsp; The Fellow will explore the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) around that teaching\/learning project and will work with CITAL to share what he or she has learned with other faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-fl-heading-text-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f783392fe79a541412964078e4bc8114\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The award for the fellowship is $3,000.&nbsp; This covers a $2,500 stipend and $500 in faculty development funds to work with other faculty, such as books or meals.&nbsp; In addition, there is another $1,000 available for the Fellow and runners up to attend the annual Midwest Scholarship of Teaching &amp; Learning Conference in South Bend in April.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-size:24px\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/intra.valpo.edu\/cital\/teaching-learning-project-proposal-format\/\">Project Proposal Format &gt;&gt;<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.valpo.edu\/machform\/view.php?id=36002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Online Application Submission Form &gt;&gt;<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/intra.valpo.edu\/cital\/past-faculty-development-fellows\/\">Past Faculty Development Fellows &gt;&gt;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-fl-heading-text-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-51a66acb2309d594d141cc7eb3589065\">Potential projects could include:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Designing a Scholarship of Teaching &amp; Learning project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing pre-class assignments to get students ready to learn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating a Flipped Classroom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using technology\/social media to create an active learning environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Fellow would be expected to do the following:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop and run one faculty development workshop and oversee one other FD activity of your choice (round table, book group, teaching square, FLC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write a blog article on your project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend and offer to present at the April Midwest SoTL Conference in South Bend for two years (once with next year&#8217;s fellow)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hold regular planning meetings with CITAL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for Faculty Development Fellowships shall be submitted to CITAL. All faculty with the rank of lecturer or above are eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of past Faculty Development Fellows. This committee will then select the next Fellow from among the applications received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">These are some comments from past Faculty Development Fellows:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-testimonial advgb-testimonial-wrapper\" id=\"advgb-testimonial-7958a215-b36c-4b72-bb34-57417d1766c1\" data-col=\"1\" data-scroll=\"1\" data-pause=\"true\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-apspeed=\"8000\" data-loop=\"true\" data-dots=\"true\" data-speed=\"1000\" data-arrows=\"false\" data-center=\"false\"><div class=\"advgb-testimonial slider-view advgb-avatar-top\"><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-item\"><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-info\"><h4 class=\"advgb-testimonial-name\">Kristi Bugajski<\/h4><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-position\" style=\"color:#331a00\">Biology<\/p><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-desc\">&#8220;The FDF was an important part of developing a service learning component to one of my courses. The semester that I implemented the new service learning project following my fellowship, I had one group of students raise almost $1,000 to raise awareness for cats with the plague.&#8221;<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-item\"><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-info\"><h4 class=\"advgb-testimonial-name\">Natalie Krivas<\/h4><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-position\" style=\"color:#331a00\">English<\/p><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-desc\">&#8220;Because of the fellowship, I was able to put my research ideas into practice by engaging students and colleagues in collaborative spaces.\u00a0 I also attended one conference and presented at two others.&#8221;<div><span style=\"font-size: 1.5rem; line-height: 1.3;\"><\/span><\/div><\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-item\"><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-info\"><h4 class=\"advgb-testimonial-name\">Lauren &amp; Jesse Sestito (sharing one fellowship)<\/h4><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-position\" style=\"color:#331a00\">Mechanical Engineering &amp; Bioengineering<\/p><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-desc\">&#8220;We did a study investigating how engineering students experience different late work policies. The FDF not only helped us complete our study, but share it broadly with other like-minded faculty on and off campus!&#8221;<div><span style=\"font-size: 1.5rem; line-height: 1.3;\"><\/span><\/div><\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-item\"><div class=\"advgb-testimonial-info\"><h4 class=\"advgb-testimonial-name\">Alberto Lopez Martin<\/h4><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-position\" style=\"color:#331a00\">World Languages &amp; Cultures<\/p><p class=\"advgb-testimonial-desc\">&#8220;The FDF allowed me to work interdisciplinarily with like-minded colleagues on materials and activities that incorporated environmental and sustainability issues into my classes, ranging from microplastic pollution to regenerative agriculture.&#8221;<div><span style=\"font-size: 1.5rem;
