“Randomness Everywhere: A Survey of Probability Applications Across Many Disciplines”

Tiffany Kolba, Ph.D. (Department of Mathematics & Statistics)

Random forces impact almost all aspects of the world. While I was originally trained in theoretical probability, this talk will give an overview of my research journey in applying probability across many disciplines. Examples include studying the movement of heavy particles in turbulent fluids, estimating the probability of twins, triplets, and quadruplets, modeling plant fertilization, and simulating board game play dynamics. The talk will highlight the many valuable opportunities I have had to collaborate with students and faculty across campus.
